PTO HAPPENINGS

A Message From our PTO Co-Presidents—

Welcome back Roosevelt Families!

Welcome back Roosevelt parents and we extend a special welcome to all incoming 5th grade and new families. We are excited to start the new school year with you and look forward to partnering with you throughout the year.  There are many ways to get involved, so please reach out to the PTO if you would like to join a committee.  Please also consider volunteering for our two biggest fundraisers, Fun Lunch and Fall Fun Fest.
Both are student favorites and operate at their best with the help from our community. Volunteering is a wonderful way to connect with other families, faculty and staff at Roosevelt Middle School. We look forward to another great year ahead!

A Message From Mr. Garstki —

Dear Roosevelt Families,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year.  Along with our teachers and staff, I look forward to providing your children with an exciting and beneficial educational experience.  The first day of school, Thursday, August 24, is a full day of school, so pack a lunch and bring a water bottle.  Students will go directly to their Homeroom at the beginning of the day.

Schedules are available on PowerSchool.  Parents may access PowerSchool via the account created using the parent username and password.

If you are having trouble accessing PowerSchool or have questions, please contact the school office, Diane Coath, CoathD@district90.org or Lisa Krusinski, KrusinskiL@district90.org

The PTO’s School Supply pick up day is Tuesday, August 22 from 7:30AM until 12:30PM in the South Gym. Please enter through the Oak Street Doors.  Breit and Johnson will be selling PE shirts for 7th and 8th grade.

School supply lists can be found on the website under “parent resources”.

Please review the attached documents.  The following items need to be brought to school on the first day:

Important Information:

Cell Phones:

As cell-phones have become more and more a part of our children’s everyday mode of communication with friends, it has led to some conflict here at school.  Although our school policy states that students are to have their phones turned off and in their lockers during the school day, the temptation to quickly and secretively go onto Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, or send pictures during the day has been too great to resist for many students. The distraction and inattention it causes has been evident and clearly noticed by many teachers and staff members.  We ask that you please have a conversation with your child(ren) about complying to the school policy and avoiding the temptation to be distracted and interested in superfluous communication with friends during the school-day/classroom time. Please know, we will be making a concerted effort to enforce this school policy this year.

Middle School Advisory Program

This year, Roosevelt will be embarking on a new and very important School Advisory program for students. Student Advisory is intentional time built into the school day (Wednesday) in which students meet with their advisor and a small group of grade-level peers. The time is designed specifically to build relationships through activities and discussions.

The goal of Student Advisory is to provide every student at Roosevelt with a teacher and a small group of peers to support and encourage one another through the middle school experience. The Advisor serves as a facilitator of the group as well as a possible point person for the student and his/her family as someone who knows the student well and can advocate for his/her social and emotional needs if needed.

We look forward to seeing you on the 1st day of School!

Sincerely,

Larry Garstki
